The funeral service for Olivia L. Schaible, 94, of Leola is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola. Pastor Sara Sorensen will lead the worship. Burial will follow at Green Mound Cemetery in Leola.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Olivia was born on Sept. 10, 1918, to Albert and Christina (Stoecker) Steiger on a farm in rural McPherson County southwest of Leola. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school before attending high school in Leola.
She married Adolph Schaible on Sept. 10, 1944, at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola. They made their home on a farm southeast of Leola. In 1952, they moved into Leola. While Adolph continued the farming operation, Olivia worked for a period of time as a clerk in the McPherson County Equalization Office. She retired in the late 1960s.
She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Leola, where she was active in the ladies aide and the quilters group. She was also a member of Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years and had been an active member of the Leola Senior Citizens group.
She could often be found tending her gardens, cooking, canning, baking, playing cards and enjoying her grandchildren's activities.
Even though physical ailments crippled her body, Olivia met everyone with a smile and shared with grace her love for them.
Olivia passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Manor Care in Aberdeen.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Arnold) Becker, of Leola; her grandchildren: Jeff of Leola and Jessica of Rapid City; as well as one sister, Lorraine Fauth, of Aberdeen; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; grandson; James; and sister, Luella Feiock, preceded her in death.
