Memorial visitation begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Lien Funeral Home.
Donald Ruben Aldinger, son of Bertha (Hintz) and Reuben Aldinger, was born at Bowdle on Aug. 25, 1936. He received his formal education at the Bowdle Public School and eventually earned his GED. Don served his country in the U.S. Army, being inducted Sept. 6, 1956. Following his honorable discharge Sept. 5, 1958, he returned to Bowdle and partnered with his dad at Aldinger Hide and Fur and was also active in the family's scrap yard. Donnie married Evelyn Ellis at the Evangel United Methodist Church in Bowdle on Nov. 28, 1958. He remained active in the family business until he retired in his early 70s. Donnie was a member of the Bowdle Church of God and the Bowdle American Legion Post No. 264. He had a great love for his Arabian horses. He also enjoyed antiquing, listening to polka music on Sunday, visiting with friends and playing cards. He and Evie also raised mink and fox for a good many years. Donnie especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donnie is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 54 years; four sons: Jackie Aldinger and Bobby Aldinger of Bowdle; Billy (Lynn) Aldinger of Aberdeen; and Jonny Aldinger of Black Hawk; one daughter, Penny (David) Bonen of Hosmer; daughter-in-law, Ruby Aldinger of Aberdeen; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father on May 28, 1983; his mother on Jan. 9, 1979; a stillborn daughter, Bonnie Lou; and one grandson.
Honorary bearers will be Donnie's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the Bowdle Nursing Home staff.
