Florenz Deutsch

Mass of Christian burial for Florenz Deutsch, 79, of Eden will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden with the Rev. Albert Cizewski celebrant. Music by the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Choir and a violin solo by Florenz's granddaughter, Taylor Deutsch. Casket pallbearers will be Florenz's grandsons: Keenan Deutsch, Brandon Spears, Christopher Janisch, Kyle Deutsch, Kendal Deutsch and Conner Deutsch. Spring Interment will be in the St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery, Eden. Military rites by the Henning-Shemanski American Legion Post No. 267. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton is in charge of arrangements.

 Florenz Lucas Deutsch was born April 24, 1933, on the family farm in rural Eden to Joe L. and Anna (Sattler) Deutsch, the youngest of eight. He attended grade school at Eden and graduated from Sisseton High School.

 On June 20, 1955, Florenz married JoAnn Kulesa at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grenville. Florenz entered the U.S. Army in October 1956, and was honorably discharged in July 1958. He received the Marksman Rifle Badge. Florenz and JoAnn returned to their home three miles east of Eden, where he farmed and raised cattle. Florenz also worked for Penrose Farms for more than 20 years. Florenz was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden. Florenz loved being involved with his grandchildren and watching them in their school sports. His great love was cattle. He enjoyed ice fishing, playing cards, horseshoes and watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Viking. Florenz entered the Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home, Roslyn, on Dec. 29, 2011, and passed away at the Community Rest Home on March 17, 2013.

 Florenz is survived by his wife, JoAnn Deutsch, of Eden; Gwen (Lester) Rumpza of Sioux Falls; Bryan Deutsch of Plymouth, Minn.; Tim (Sharon) Deutsch of Sioux Falls; Mark Deutsch of Columbia Heights, Minn.; Perry (Linda) Deutsch of Aberdeen; Troy (Terri) Deutsch of Sioux Falls; and Natalie (Troy) Sattler of Roslyn; one brother, Willie (Arlene) Deutsch, of Eden; one sister, Regina Lentz, of Watertown; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

 Florenz was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Hubert and Rudy; and three sisters: Sally Hills, Mathilda Waletich and infant sister Margaret.
