St. Joseph, Minn.: Memorial services celebrating the life of Rebecca D. Mulvaney, 65, of St. Joseph, Minn., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Wilfred Theisen, OSB, will officiate.
Inurnment will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Collegeville.
Rebecca died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at her home with family by her side after a courageous and futile one-year battle with lung cancer.
Rebecca was born Dec. 18, 1947, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to Charles M. and Maxine (McPeek) Hutzler. She graduated from Parkersburg High School and Ohio University with a bachelor of fine arts degree. Rebecca was a self-employed visual artist who believed in the strong natural and spiritual power of landscape, those things that draw us beyond ourselves. Her work has been displayed or placed in collections at the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings, Dacotah Prairie Museum in Aberdeen, Plains Art Museum in Fargo, N.D., and many others throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In addition to her studio pursuits, Rebecca was a founding signature member of the Artist Guild of Central Minnesota, she was a board member of the South Dakota Arts Council and served as program director of the Granary Rural Cultural Center and was on the executive committee of the South Dakota Artists Network. She has also served as director of galleries at Northern State University, executive director of the Huntingdon County (Pa.) Arts Council, and as exhibits director for the Fredericksburg (Va.) Center for the Creative Arts.
Rebecca is survived by her husband, Philip Mulvaney, of St. Joseph; son, Sean Malone (Wendy Lyons) of Califon, N.J.; grandson, Alex Malone; stepchildren: Sean Mulvaney of LeSueur, Minn., and Maureen (Steve) Thompson of Shakopee, Minn.; mother, Maxine Hutzler of Parkersburg, W.Va.; brothers: Charles (Kathy) Hutzler and James (Niki) Hutzler, both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Erin Malone; father, Charles Hutzler; and sister, Judy Hutzler.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to St. Cloud Hospital Hospice or Coborns Cancer Center.
