Funeral service for Donald E. Nordling, 81, of Aberdeen will be
10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. N.E., Aberdeen, with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with military graveside rites being conducted by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24 of Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Don's family prefers memorials to either North Plains Hospice or Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen and grateful for all the support of Hospice, Pastor Deb and Pastor Jeff.
Donald E. Nordling was born to Edwin and Katherine (Meese)
Nordling on Dec. 19, 1930, in Dupree. He lived in Aberdeen from infancy to the time of his death. Don was a 1949 graduate of Aberdeen Central High School. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in Radar Operations in Little Creek, Va. He was discharged from the Navy in 1955.
Don married Corrine Rott in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 7, 1953. The couple was blessed with five children: three daughters, Debra (Jim) Palmer of Pierre, Sheree (Mick) Hogan of Rosholt and Dorene Buchanan of Mina; and two sons, Ronald
Nordling of Aberdeen and Richard (Joanne)
Nordling of Gloversville, N.Y.
Don graduated from Northern State Teacher's College in 1959, with a degree in business. He and his father, Edwin, constructed many buildings in Aberdeen and he continued working until his death.
Don lost his battle to lung cancer on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, with his family surrounding him at his bedside.
Don was a life-long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher, Sunday school teacher, congregational president and Scout Master of Troop 51. He was also a member of the Yelduz Shrine, president of the Uniform Bodies, a member of the Color Guard for 32 years, a member, and later High Priest, of the Masonic Order No. 38 Aberdeen Chapter, and a charter member of the Sertoma Club, where he served as president and governor of the South Dakota District.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family and loved being "Dad," "Grandpa," "Brother" and "Uncle Donald". There are many wonderful memories of time spent at Pickerel Lake. He will be remembered for his strong faith, courage, sense of humor and his fondness for fishing and eating lutefisk.
Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Corrine; five children; two sisters: Norene (Tom) Danely of Orange, Calif., and Janice (Wayne) Hansen of Aberdeen; one brother, Edward (Virginia) Nordling of Plymouth, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two infant brothers; and son-in-law, Spencer Buchanan.
