Edwin Stroh

Funeral services for Edwin Stroh, 99, of Mobridge will be Saturday, April 6, at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 918 First Ave. E., Mobridge.

 Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Mobridge.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, with prayer services at 7 p.m. at Stout Family Funeral Home, 519 Seventh Ave., E. Mobridge.

  Edwin passed away March 30, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Mobridge.

 Edwin Stroh was born in Venturia, N.D., to Jacob and Lydia (Retzer) Stroh March 11, 1914. He grew up and attended school in the Venturia area and attended high school in Ashley, N.D.

 He married Malinda Hilgemann on Sept. 27, 1936, this union lasting 72 years, until the death of Malinda on Feb. 8, 2009. Ed and Malinda were blessed with seven children.

 They farmed in North Dakota for several years and purchased a farm Southwest of Eureka and lived there for 12 years. They sold the farm and moved to Mobridge in 1957. Ed worked for a time at Mobridge Lumber, Mobil Oil and Texaco Oil for eight years. Prior to his retirement in 1979, he worked for the Mobridge School System for 13 years. He also worked as the janitor at the A. H. Brown Library for 26 years. Ed enjoyed woodworking and his creations were raffled at the Mobridge Hospital Bazaar for years. He and Malinda enjoyed playing cards, marbles and fishing on Lake Oahe. After retirement, Ed and Malinda spent 17 winters in Arizona. The lifelong friends from Mobridge, as well as the many friends they acquired in years of travel, were very important to Ed. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years.

 Blessed to have shared his life are his children: James (Bev) Stroh of Tomah, Wis., Janette (Frank) Scherr of Merritt Island, Fla., Ione (Otto) Oster of Mobridge, Vera (Don) Kraemer of Bison, Verna Best of Pine City, Minn., Wanda (Davis) Martin of Mobridge and June (Toby) Day of Chandler, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

 Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Malinda; parents, Jacob and Lydia Stroh; brothers: Berthold, Herbert and Wilbert; sisters: Martha Opp, Hulda Loebs, Edna Neuharth, Adeline Ehly and Loretta Dockter; grandchildren: Michael Scherr and Elizabeth Scherr Archambault.
