Webster: Judy Barber, 89, of Webster died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster, the Rev. Daniel Ostercamp officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay.
Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue prior to services.
Judith Sophie Holland was born Thursday, April 12, 1923, to Jacob and Isabelle (Sampson) Holland on the family farm near Pierpont. She was baptized and confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church near Webster. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Webster High School in 1940. After high school, she worked in the Webster area.
She was married to Vernon Jud Barber for 59 years, when he passed away in October 2005. The couple lived in Waubay for the first 20 years of marriage, and then moved to Webster in 1965. She worked at the Day County Courthouse, and then served as Day County treasurer for 23 years, until her retirement. She entered Sun Dial Manor in Bristol in January 2007.
She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster. She enjoyed working in her garden, wood-carving, crocheting and reading. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and traveled to Norway with 19 family members in 1998. She also loved visiting with family and friends. She had a special love for children of all ages.
Judy passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Bristol, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 28 days.
Survivors include her children: Wesley Rasmussen of Madison, Charlotte (Chuck) Glynn of Fullerton, N.D., Loma (Jim) Erickson of Mesa, Ariz., Jeanne (Ron) Schetnan of Fergus Falls, Minn., Mary Jo (Don) Hough of Sioux Falls and Jim (Bonnie) Barber of Hudson, Wis.; four sisters: Emma Waddle, Selma (Jay) Evenson, Helen (Ted) Nelson, all of Webster, and Serine (Earl) Althoff of Waubay; two sisters-in-law: Cecilia Barber of Milford, Iowa, and Shirley Bundrock of Orangevale, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Alice; two brothers: Edwin and Sherman Holland; and three sisters: Lorraine Peterson, Irene Tvinnereim and Harriet Evenson.
