Ione Merilla Price was born May 17, 1921, in Britton to Earl and Bertha (Hustel) Price. She attended elementary school and three years of high school in Britton and graduated from Chaffey High School, Ontario, Calif., in 1939 (during the year her parents lived there). Ione attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls and returned to Britton, where she was employed by Harry W. Nelson as a legal secretary. Ione then moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where she was employed as an executive secretary until July 1950.
On Sept. 5, 1950, Ione married Raymond E. Curr in her parents' home in Britton. Ione and Raymond lived in Britton and then on their farm south of Amherst for 53 years. At the time of her death, Ione was a resident of Good Samaritan Assisted Living in Pine River, Minn.
Ione was a member of First Lutheran Church of Britton, where she served as president of the ALCW, a Sunday school teacher, and was the first woman council member. She was a 60-year member and a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a 60-year member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries of Britton. She played golf, was active in 4-H when her daughters were members, and was always interested in whatever her children and grandchildren were doing.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters: Mrs. Denice (Neil) Smith of Pine River, Minn., and Mrs. Cherry (Charles) Hall of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters: Evelyn Witham of Aberdeen and Beverly Torbert of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren: Rae (Mark) Phillips, Amy (Brian) DeKanick, Scott (Deborah) Smith and Patrick (Katie) Hall; and seven great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Mara Phillips, Vivian Ione DeKanick, Jackson Smith and Whitney Smith and Kristopher and Zachary Hall.
Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents; and an infant brother, Ira.
