Veronica Ella "Ronnie" Kuhfeld, 88, of Aberdeen died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services. The funeral service for Ronnie will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at St Paul's Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial at the Warner Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m.
Veronica E. Fredrickson, daughter of Harry and Celia (Shockley) Fredrickson, was born May 28, 1924, in Groton. At the age of 3, she moved with her family to Lemmon. She grew up on their farm 1 mile east and 1 mile south of Lemmon. She attended first through eighth grade at the Bunn School near their home and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1942.
On Oct. 8, 1942, she married Richard H. Napton at Lemmon. In March 1943, they moved to Portland, Ore., where she became an arc welder. She was a pipe welder on the oil tankers at Swan Island Shipyards in Portland during World War II. She and Richard later divorced.
She moved to Aberdeen in October 1952, and worked at The White Grill, Dan's Café, Newberry's, Western Printing and later at 3M until she retired on May 1, 1986.
On July 17, 1974, she was united in marriage to Edward "Eddy" Kuhfeld at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. For many years they made their home on the Kuhfeld family homestead. Ronnie's beloved husband died Sept. 26, 2008. In 2009, she moved to Aberdeen, where she resided until the time of her death.
She was a confirmed member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a former member of the 3M Glee Club and Women of the Moose. She took pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, working on puzzles, reading, growing flowers, bird watching and spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by her son, Richard H. Napton, Bluffton, S.C.; daughter-in-law (wife of Dennis R.) Julie Napton, Sioux Falls; brother, Richard (Mary) Fredrickson; grandchildren: Shawn (Bobby) Jones, Darin (Beth) Napton and Denise (Duane) Mireles; five great-grandchildren: Lyndsey(Brett) Key, Leah and Lauren Sparks, Ella and Celia Napton and many other relatives.
Ronnie was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; her husbands; son, the Rev Dr. Dennis R. Napton; sisters, Lottie (Willis) Lawler, Lucille (Dick) Fennell and Naomi (Vince) Ruscitti; brothers, Earl (Edith) Fredrickson, Donald (Bonnie) Fredrickson, Glenn (Ida) Harrison, David (Aina) Harrison and Bob (Ida) Fredrickson.
Ronnie's family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the St. John Lutheran Church Scholarship, Warner, SD.
