Richard P. Janes, 62, of Huron died Saturday, May 11, 2013. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with his brother, Fr. David Janes officiating, followed by military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Burial will be in the St. Martin Cemetery. A liturgical wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Kuhler Funeral Home
Richard Janes was born Oct. 4, 1950, in Aberdeen to Ivyl and Leitha (Egert) Janes. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Roncalli High School, graduating in 1968.
He married Kathy Melmer at Sacred Heart Church, Aberdeen, on Oct. 17, 1970.
Richard attended Northern State University in Aberdeen and served in the U.S. Navy from 1970-1976. He was employed at Huron Regional Medical Center from 1976, until the present and had currently served as director of medical imaging.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church and served as cantor, music and choir member. He was a member of several bands, as vocalist and harmonica player. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Saturday morning breakfast club and was active in Right to Life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a Boy Scout leader.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Huron; one daughter, Mary (Chad) Kramer, of Monroe, Iowa; two sons: Sam (Karen) of Huron and Steve (Sandy) of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren: Kevin Jansa; Luke, Ben and Adam Kramer; Ryan, Kristen, Allison and Sean Janes; Darrean, Markadrean and Jaden Janes; and Mitchell Janes; three brothers: Lanny (Vivian) of Decker, Mich., Fr. David of Aberdeen, and Michael (Noi) of Campo, Calif.; three sisters: Susan (Richard) Kolb of Leola, Mary Ann Rombs of Aberdeen and Carol Ottenbacher of Eureka.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Collin and Mark; and his parents and grandparents.
