Alice passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Sundial Manor in Bristol at age 93.
Alice A. Vickers was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Claremont, to Mernie and Minnie (Hinrichs) Vickers. Her education was received in Claremont and Langford. After graduating from Langford High School, Alice attended Northern State College in Aberdeen.
On Nov. 23, 1938, she married Dwight Oliver Olson in Britton. The first few years of their marriage, they lived in San Francisco, Calif., while Dwight was serving in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, they returned to Langford where they made their home. Alice served as the substitute mail carrier for her husband's rural route for 20 years. Dwight passed away Feb. 6, 1971, and Alice continued to make her home in Langford. She eventually sold their home and moved into an apartment in Langford. She lived there until moving to Sundial Manor in Bristol in June of 2011.
Alice had been a member of the Presbyterian Church in Langford and active in the Presbyterian Women's group. She also served as an elder and secretary. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Langford and also had served in a state office. She was a 68-year member of the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary and had held county offices with that organization. Alice was also active in the Langford Senior Citizens group.
She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Perhaps above all else, Alice loved to travel. First with her husband, and after his death, she made many trips with friends and her brother. Over her lifetime, Alice had traveled to all 50 states, Europe and South America.
Surviving Alice are two daughters: Karen Brinkman of Loon Lake, Wash.; Mona (Russell) Nickelson of Langford; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, three daughters: Kay Johnson, Vicki Hoines and Verna Holland; two brothers: Don Vickers and John Vickers; two sisters: Arlie Vickers and Mernis Wallace; and three grandchildren.
