Funeral Service for Ruth Frerichs, 89, of Aberdeen, formerly of Columbia, S.D., will be 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Columbia, with Pastor Craig Grams officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church.
Ruth passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Angelhaus Regional Basic Care Center, Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
Ruth Evers was born on May 13, 1923, in Franklin, Neb., to Fred and Matie (Ebke) Evers. This is the area where she was raised and attended school. After graduating from Franklin High School, Ruth furthered her education and received her teaching certificate.
Ruth was united in marriage to John Frerichs on Jan. 19, 1947, at Franklin, Neb., The couple was blessed with two sons and two daughters. The family moved to the Columbia area in 1956 and farmed there for many years. Ruth and John shared nearly 40 years of marriage before he passed away in 1986. Ruth later moved into Aberdeen, where she continued to reside until the time of her death.
Ruth was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Columbia, where she served as Secretary of the Lutheran Women's League and was an active member of The Ladies Aide. She also did substitute teaching at the parochial school in Columbia for several years. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving Ruth are her children, Wallace Frerichs of Yakima, Wash., Rayma Pierson of Columbia, and Janice Evers of Sun Prairie, Wis.; five grandchildren, Scott, Jeffrey, Brandon and Kyle Frerichs and Nicole Weron; three great grandchildren, Hunter Frerichs and Veronica and Axel Weron; and one sister, Bernice Arment-McFadd of Aberdeen.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one son, LaVon Frerichs; one sister, Mildred Bartels; and one half-sister, Meta Evers.
