James "Jim" Edward Palmer was born Oct. 20, 1955, to Joe and Monica (Keller)Palmer in Aberdeen, S.D. He lived with his parents and his older sister, Joan, in Bowdle, S.D., until he was 4 years old, when the family moved to Aberdeen. Jim lived his entire childhood in Aberdeen, where he attended Catholic grade school and graduated from Roncalli High School in 1973. He then attended the University of South Dakota and graduated with a bachelors degree in accounting in 1977. While attending USD, he spent summers in Aberdeen, where he worked for Northwestern Bell. During the first summer of his freshman year, he met Debbie Nordling, the girl he would marry on May 19, 1978. After their marriage, Deb joined him in Pierre, where they lived and raised their two sons: Drew Ryan, born in 1983, and Bryan James, born in 1988.
Jim's first job after graduation from college was with Fischer, Buckles and Associates in Pierre in 1977. Jim started working for McGladrey and Pullen in Pierre from 1989 to 2005, which then became Palmer Currier and Hoffert in October 2005.
Jim's proudest moments revolved around his "boys." On Dec. 27, 2009, he became a grandpa for the first time to Alaire James. He enjoyed life, especially his beloved Miami Dolphins, music, movies of all kinds, animals and being around his family and friends. Jim and Deb are truly blessed to have so many friends that they have made over the years living in the Pierre area.
He is survived by his wife, Debra, of Pierre; sons: Drew (Anna) Palmer and Bryan (Rachel Muldbakken) Palmer; one granddaughter; his parents, Joe and Monica Palmer; and one sister, Joan Palmer.
