Ruth Ethel Tiegs, 98, of Ellendale was born July 2, 1914, to Hamilton and Rosa (Miller) Gibson in Ellendale. She was educated in Ellendale.
On July 14, 1932, Ruth married Herman Carl Tiegs Jr. They farmed in the Ellendale area until 1955. They then moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, where they managed the bowling center that they eventually purchased. Upon retirement in 1971, they sold their business and returned to Ellendale.
Herman died Aug. 14, 1976. Ruth resided in Ellendale until her death at Prince of Peace Care Center on June 1, 2013. Ruth was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, and American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, baking and dancing.
Ruth's progeny include two sons: Gary Tiegs, Ellendale, N.D., and Curtis Tiegs, Viera, Fla.; one daughter: LaPalma

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; parents; one son, Loren Tiegs; one granddaughter, Deanna Tiegs; five brothers: Chester, Raymond, Lawrence, Roscoe and LaVon; and one sister, Gladys.
Ruth Ethel Tiegs, of Ellendale died June 1, 2013, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale.
The funeral service is 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial will be at Ellendale City Cemetery.
