Henry died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Sundial Manor in Bristol.
Alfred Henry Rekow was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Ellendale, N.D., to Fred and Susan (Chesebro) Rekow. Henry grew up on the family farm in Elden Township, N.D., and attended first through eighth grade at Farming Valley rural school. He later attended special ed classes and also took welding instruction at Ellendale State Teachers College. Henry never married, but actively farmed the family farm even after the deaths of his parents. Henry had a gift for working with animals and was known to have well-fed calves. Henry was always available to help the neighbors when a helping hand was needed. He was always an active hunter, regularly driving 10,000 miles a year to hunt and was known to have felled a moose with a single shot. He loved every dog he had, calling each of them "Bud."
After a stroke diminished his activities, he went to live with his nephew, Jerry, and wife, Brenda, for a few years, and, after more health problems, he spent his final days in nursing homes.
Henry is survived by his brother, Karl Rekow of Ellendale; three nephews; one niece; and numerous cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents; half brothers: Willis H. and Donald W.; half sisters: Ruby, Gladys and Donalda; and his brother, Gary.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give memorials to Pheasants Forever, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation or your favorite charity.
