Marie Jean was born to Jacob J. and Martha (Dockter) Jundt at Aberdeen on Nov. 18, 1944. She and her newly born sister, Margaret June, became children of God by Holy Baptism on Feb. 9, 1946, at the Lutheran parsonage in Leola.

Marie and her younger siblings grew up on the family farm near Leola.

She married Bruce McIntire at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola on May 21, 1967.

She honed her secretarial skills over a 50-year span, beginning with the McPherson County Extension Service in 1963 and concluding with the Schmidt, Schroyer, Moreno and Lee law firm in Pierre in 2013. With initiation by her mother at a young age, Marie became a skilled seamstress and cook. She also enjoyed baking and canning.

Her favorite activities included reading, first to her children and then to her grandchildren, playing Scrabble or cards and walking. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church from the time of her marriage until her death. When her children were young, she served as a Sunday school teacher for several years and later as an adult Bible study leader.

Marie is survived by her husband, Bruce; daughter, Susan M. (Guy) Baumann of Chester; two sons: Paul D. (Lisa) McIntire of Watertown and Mark A. (Holly) McIntire of Pierre; grandchildren: Joshua, Julie, Aubrey, Jonathan and Josiah Baumann and Alex, Drew, Kate and Mason McIntire; sister, Margaret (James) Appl of Aberdeen; three brothers: Jacob L. Jundt of Aberdeen, Jerry H. (Phyllis) Jundt of Lindsay, Texas and Willard A. (Berniece) Jundt of Leola; several nieces and nephews; and her husband's siblings: Lowell, Lloyd and Roger McIntire, Sharon Gienger and their spouses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Ivan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, The Salvation Army, Countryside Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
