Eureka: The funeral service for Sam Jakober, 98, of Eureka will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka.

 Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

 Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

 Sam died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

 Sam Jakober, son of Jacob and Katherina (Vilhauer) Jakober, was born June 23, 1915, near Hosmer. His family farmed northeast of Hosmer and he attended country school until the eighth grade. When he was 8 years old, his mother died and he then learned to do the household chores. As a teenager, Sam worked for an area farmer until moving to Minnesota, where he worked on a farm.

 He was united in marriage to Olga Neuharth on July 18, 1938, in Redwood Falls, Minn. They moved to a farm near Leola, and their daughter, Marjorie, was born in 1939. Sam purchased a farm 10 miles southeast of Eureka. Their daughter, Dina, was born in 1943 and son, Don, in 1947. In 1960, they sold the farm and moved to Eureka, where he worked as a carpenter. Sam drove school bus for many years and established a strong relationship with the Eureka students.

 He enjoyed golfing and was very talented in making model farm equipment and woodworking. Sam was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Eureka Senior Center.

 Surviving Sam are his three children: Marjorie (Nick Hatch) Brown of Corpus Christi, Texas, Dina (Del) Moser of Billings, Mont., and Don (Arliss) Jakober of Aberdeen; four grandchildren: Carla VonVoss, Juan Brown, Bryan Jakober and Michelle McAnulty; seven great-grandchildren: Joshua Jakober, Justice Jakober, Benson Jakober, Ryan McAnulty, Jordan McAnulty, Jed Brown and Amber Brown.

 His parents; wife, Olga, who died Oct. 21, 2003; eight brothers; and three sisters preceded him in death.

 Honorary casketbearers will be Sam's grandchildren: Carla VonVoss, Juan Brown, Bryan Jakober and Michelle McAnulty.

 Casketbearers will be: Verlin Jakober, Glenn Jakober, Myron Jakober, Charles Jakober, Leroy Jakober and Steve Jakober.

 Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka has been entrusted with arrangements.
