Mike Herrick, 53, passed away at his home on July 10, 2013, in Beavercreek, Ohio.
Michael Jerome Herrick was born to Jerome and Ardyth (Zastrow) Herrick on July 31, 1959, in Aberdeen. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School and attended college in Minneapolis, Minn., earning a degree in electronics.
He married Sherri DeWald on Aug. 23, 1980, in Aberdeen. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, where Mike worked as a field engineer for NCR. During this time, they had three children. They later transferred to Dayton, Ohio, in 1987 with NCR. World-traveled, Mike held many other positions from manager to vice president of organizations, such as VanStar, Cadence Designs, Silicone Graphics, BackWeb Technologies, Exigen Group and Wire One. In 2006, he began his own consulting company HMC, providing project leadership, construction management, rapid assessment of business operations, mentoring teams and building organizations. Mike was a devoted husband and loving father, spending many seasons coaching competitive softball and football, attending dance competitions, chaperoning countless youth activities and providing Christian leadership for youth at Peace Lutheran Church. He was also part of four generations of magicians and loved to entertain. A charismatic man who loved life, he lived his life with integrity and bravery. His generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to his family and friends. He was an active member of the Vineyard Church, Ring 5 and 324 Magic clubs, and the Society of American Magicians.
Grateful for having shared his life, he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherri; his three children: Helen (Kevin) McCarty, Taylor Herrick and Holly (Samuel) Kelly; four grandchildren: Annabelle and Abigail McCarty and Jayden Herrick and baby Kelly; his mother, Ardyth Herrick; two sisters: Audrey (Randy) Mauritzson, Donna (Robert) Fry; and many close friends who were like family.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jerome James Herrick, in June 2006.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at The Vineyard Church, 4051 Indian Ripple Road, Beavercreek, where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013. Additional visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service Monday.
Burial at Valley View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Vineyard Teen Center in Mike's memory.
