Funeral services for Wayne "Butch" R. DeSart, 70, of Mobridge and formerly of Aberdeen, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Kesling Funeral Home, 1201 W. Grand Crossing, in Mobridge.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, with a lunch to follow at the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Butch passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Wayne was born on March 21, 1943, to Ora "Duke" and Millie (O'Bannon) DeSart in Mobridge, where he was raised and attended school.

Wayne was united in marriage to JoAnn Huber on Sept. 23, 1961.

To support his young and growing family (daughter, Michelle, born in 1962 and son, Wade, who was born in 1964) he worked as a meat cutter before deciding to better their futures by enrolling in Black Hills State College. While attending school, he and JoAnn raised their children in the college dorm that he directed and the family ate in the cafeteria where he cut meat. In 1973, Wayne graduated with a bachelor's degree in business. After achieving his dream, he stayed on at BHSC as the director of financial aid, helping other students achieve their collegiate dreams.

Following a spiritual calling, Wayne moved his family (now grown again to include another son, John, born in 1974) to Sisseton in order to be the financial and business advisor to Lowell Lundstrom ministry.

His journey then led the family to Aberdeen, where he opened a small business and then entered into the world of banking, where he eventually retired as a bank vice president, always using his positions to help anyone he possibly could.

Wayne wore many hats throughout his life, not all of them being a cowboy hat. He was an athlete, a mentor, a butcher, a father, a banker, a bull rider, a friend, but above all, a true steward of people. He changed many lives and touched countless others with his kindness and humor throughout his many years and in all of his various roles.

He will be so very missed by all that were touched by his life.

Wayne was survived by his three children: Michelle (Curt) Fiechtner of Sioux City, Iowa, Wade DeSart of Aberdeen and John DeSart of Warner; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Peggy Belisle and Gail Hysong.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Joan Wientjes and Bonnie Bishop.
