Aberdeen: The funeral service for Dorothy A. Getsman, 96, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating.
Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park in Aberdeen.
Dorothy died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Ipswich.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., in Aberdeen.
Dorothy A. Williams was born May 3, 1917, in Faulkton to David and Mary (Stevenson) Williams.
On July 10, 1935, she married Frank Getsman in Aberdeen. They farmed near Loyalton until World War II, when they moved to Chicago. She worked for Douglas Aircraft. Later, they moved to Aberdeen, where she owned and operated Aberdeen Newcomers. Her Newcomers group volunteered for the Salvation Army for years. She also sold Shaklee.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen. She loved gardening and playing bridge.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Richard Getsman, Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Tarena (Justin) Gamble, Kenneth Getsman, Charles (Amy) Getsman, Stephanie Getsman, Diana Getsman and Damon Getsman; great-grandchildren: Maison Gamble, MaKara Gamble, Katie Getsman, Zaylee Havelka and Deschaine Getsman; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Getsman, Bismarck, N.D.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her husband, Frank Getsman; her parents: David and Mary Williams; sisters: Regina Heavrin, Blanche Neilan and Mildred Ostrander; and brothers: Maynard Williams and Glenn Williams.
