Columbia: The funeral service for Janice Larson, 78, of Columbia will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., in Aberdeen. Pastor Don Peck will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Janice died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at ManorCare Health Service of Aberdeen.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, from 1 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Janice Elizabeth Hansen was born April 16, 1935, in Aberdeen to Jack and Lillian (Clark) Hansen. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Fritz and Luella Weifenbach, near Columbia. She attended country school and went on to graduate from Columbia High School.
Janice was united in marriage to Melvin Larson on Sept. 20, 1953, in Columbia. To this union five children were born. The couple made their home on the family farm north of Aberdeen, where they raised their family. Over the years, Janice worked at Control Data and at the Dakota Midland campus, where she worked in the housekeeping department.
Janice enjoyed old time music and western movies. She enjoyed visiting with others, and especially cherished the time she was able to spend with her family.
Grateful for having shared Janice's life are her husband, Melvin Larson, Columbia; five children: Deborah (Cal) Clausen, Spokane, Wash., Dan (Sheri) Larson, Aberdeen, Tamara (Albert) DeMelo, Nampa, Idaho, Todd Larson, Columbia, and Clayton (Marla) Larson, Selby; eight grandchildren: Lisa Clausen, Luke Clausen, Derek (Abbey) Larson, Andrew Larson, Matt (Ashley) DeMelo, Megan DeMelo, Allison Larson and Nick Larson; and one great-granddaughter, Mayci Jo DeMelo.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Hansen; guardians, Fritz and Luella Weifenbach; and two brothers: Jack and Dennis Hansen.
