Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Gramm Funeral Home, U.S. Highway 12, in Ipswich and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Ramona was born Jan. 7, 1925, to Jacob and Lydia (Schumacher) Voegele in Roscoe, S.D. She attended school there and graduated from Roscoe High School. She furthered her education at Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen and attained her teacher's certificate.
She married Harold Markuson on Nov. 19, 1944, in Roscoe. They made their first home together on his parent's farm so that Harold could continue working with his family. After a short time, they moved into Ipswich, S.D. Ramona spent many years teaching in Edmunds County rural schools and also worked as a substitute teacher. Their marriage would span 65 wonderful years.
She loved to play the piano and played by ear as Harold would sing along to her playing. Together, they enjoyed playing cards with friends and faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Ipswich. She also loved to go bowling.
Harold passed away on March 7, 2009. Ramona continued to make Ipswich her home. She found great joy in visits from family and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her declining health eventually led her to move to the Golden Living Center in Ipswich. This is where she passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012.
Ramona is survived by her daughter, Shirley Olverson of Watertown, S.D.; son, Gary (June) Markuson of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Milbert (Ramona) Voegele of Watertown; five grandchildren, Scott Makens, Tom (Jake Yelinek) Makens, Marnie (Matt) Dondoneau, Michelle (Chris) Determan and Eric (Natasha) Markuson, as well as six great-grandchildren.
Her husband; parents; and four sisters, Martha Jeschke, Ellen Kuecker, Lenora Brugman, and Adelida Lassle preceded her in death.
