The funeral service for Tilla O. (Ash) Sittner, 88, of Aberdeen will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Tilla died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at her home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the funeral home.
Tilla Ordella Vaardahl was born on June 21, 1925, to Andrew and Bertina Vaardahl in rural Pierpont. She lived in the Pierpont area and later in Langford. While in Langford, she worked at various jobs, including painting and refinishing woodwork. She also owned Swedes Corner. Tilla was a hard worker and there was not a challenge she could not master. She moved to Aberdeen in 1979, where she worked at Avera St. Luke's Hospital until she retired when she was 71 years old.
Tilla loved listening to polka and country music, going to auctions, mowing grass and bowling on a league. Her greatest love was for her exotic birds, which included various species of parrots and her three dogs, Sadie, Sophie and Missy, which she refered to as her babies. Tilla enjoyed visiting with her best friend, Dee Hoffer.
Tilla was united in marriage to Henry Ash and of this marriage the following children were born, daughter, Ardella (Jay) Galvin, Roslyn,; daughter, Leone (Rodney) Jondahl, Aberdeen; daughter, Diane (Mike) Angstenberger, Atlanta, Ga.; son, Wayne Ash, Aberdeen; and son, Marlin Ash, who preceded her in death. Tilla loved being a grandmother to her 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Bertina; son, Marlin; brothers: Jacob, Orton, Ordean and Irvin; sisters: Clarice J. Laushkin and Alyce Travers; her grandsons: Bradley Jondahl and Dwayne Pushor; and great-granddaughter, Brittney Mae Lohn.
Memorials are preferred to the Aberdeen Area Humane Society, 2511 385th Ave., N.E., Aberdeen, SD.
