Bonnie E. Peterson, 82, of Salem passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at Sun Prairie Baptist Church, rural Salem. Visitation began at noon on Sunday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.
Bonnevieve "Bonnie" Ellen Feske was born on Dec. 7, 1930, to George and Hilda (Osterberg) Feske in Canova, S.D. She grew up in the Canova area and graduated from Salem High School. In June 1947, she married Donald C. Peterson and together they raised five children on a farm south of Canova. She lived on the farm until she was injured and then went to Watertown to live with her daughter before moving to Golden Living in Salem in 2012.
Bonnie's greatest love was her family. She loved every minute spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made friends everywhere she went and no one was a stranger for long. Bonnie loved nature and all animals, but had a special love for her kitties. She enjoyed listening to music, especially old gospel and country music. She was also an avid gardener and always had beautiful flowers. The coffee pot was always on and there was always something good to eat with it. You never went hungry at the Peterson house. She was a life-long member of the Mission Covenant Church until its closing.
Bonnie drove school bus for many years for Canova School and then for Howard. She also worked part-time as a home health aide. Her "kids" and her clients all held a very special place in her heart.
Bonnie is survived by: her husband, Donald, of Salem; her children: Elizabeth Rayman of Minneapolis, Minn., Bob Peterson and Tom (Carol) Peterson all of Salem, S.D., and Ann (Kelly) Stein of Watertown, S.D.; her grandchildren: Wade (Angie) Rayman, Amber Allen, Eric (Charissa) Peterson, Adam (Jenn) Peterson, Heather (Derek) Eichacker, Lance Peterson and Andrea Peterson; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Feske; her son, Charles Peterson; a daughter-in-law, Jean Peterson; and two grandsons, Joshua Peterson and Christopher Stromseth.
