Alice Leona Kurle, daughter of Frieda (Schock) and Christian Kurle, was born at her parents' farm nine miles northeast of Eureka on Feb. 28, 1925. She was confirmed at the Eureka Congregational Church in 1939 and was educated in country schools. Alice, along with her parents, sister, and brother-in-law, then ran Newtown Corner east of Eureka.
Alice met Otto Jundt at Newtown, and they were married at Otto's parents' farm 17 miles east and one mile south of Eureka on Nov. 14, 1943. They lived on Otto's family farm until 1962, when they relocated to Eureka. Alice then worked for many years at Boschee's Super-Valu. Later, she worked several years for Social Services, as well as at other various jobs in town. Otto died on March 12, 1993. Alice continued living in her own home until two years ago, when she moved into assisted living and, later, the healthcare center.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She loved animals, especially dogs, and enjoyed gardening and embroidering. Her family was very important to her and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her great cooking, with strudels being her specialty.
Alice is survived by three sons: John (Elizabeth) Jundt, Paul (Wanda) Jundt and Tim (Carmen) Jundt, all of Eureka; one daughter: Peggy (Melvin) Serfoss of Aberdeen; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father on Oct. 30, 1940; her mother on Dec. 3, 1989; her husband; and one sister and brother-in-law, Ida and Otto Pfeifle.
Honorary bearers will be the staffs of Eureka Community Hospital and Avera Eureka Healthcare Center.
Casketbearers will be Alice's grandsons: Casey Jundt and Jake Jundt of Eureka, Jeff Serfoss of Aberdeen, Todd Serfoss of Bath, David Jundt of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jay Jundt, who is stationed in Germany while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Alice's nephew, James Pfeifle of Eureka, is filling in for Jay.
