Aberdeen: Memorial service for Byron J. Kurtz, 58, Aberdeen will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Byron died on Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Sanford Health, Aberdeen surrounded by family and friends.

 In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.

 Family will be greeting friends from 5 to 7 pm, Monday with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

 Byron James Kurtz was born on Aug. 10, 1955 at Aberdeen, SD to Chris and Beverly (Fogel) Kurtz. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. On Dec. 19, 1975 he married Peggy Beck at Aberdeen and after twenty years they were divorced.  He entered the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged on April 16, 1976. He worked for K.O. Lee for several years and later worked for Lien Transportation until his health failed in June of 2013. 

 Byron was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, darts, playing pool, foosball, bowling, softball and playing cards with family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

 Grateful for having shared Byron's life are his children, Chris Kurtz (Sam Charlton), Bowdle, Stacy (Dave) Washenberger, Aberdeen, Michael (Pauline) Wilson, Webster, grandchildren, Tage, Kadence, Gracey, Hailey, Riley, Ethan, Davin, Shelbie, Quentin, April and Damien, step father, Jim Lout, Aberdeen, siblings, Connie (Pete) Herman, Debi Hovrud (Mike Crady), Rod Kurtz (Kristy Robertson), all of Aberdeen, Calvin (Susan) Lout, Armour and Denise (Chad) Lyke, Aberdeen, several nephews and nieces.

 Byron is preceded in death by his son, Jason Kurtz, father, Chris Kurtz, mother, Beverly Lout and brother-in-law, Jim Hovrud.
