Arthur 'Art' A. Yeske

Columbia: Funeral service for Arthur "Art" A. Yeske, 91, of Columbia will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Columbia. The Rev. Tyler Poppen will officiate.

Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

 Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 pm at the funeral home.

 Art died Aug. 29, 2013 at ManorCare Health Systems in Aberdeen.

 Arthur A., son of Otto and Anna (Peters) Yeske Sr. was born December 8, 1921 and raised on the family homestead north of Columbia. He attended rural Lutheran Grade School north of Columbia and graduated from Barnard High School with the class of 1940. He continued to farm the family farm, raising grains and livestock.

 He was united in marriage to Phyllis Eichler on Aug. 23, 1969 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Columbia. They made their home on the family farm. Art retired from farming and in 2010 Art entered nursing care and was in and out of ManorCare these past few years.

 Art enjoyed outdoor sports. He was an avid trapper, hunter and fisherman. He played Legion Baseball, playing baseball into his 40s. Art has always been a quiet gentle man.

 Art was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a former elder and usher and a member of SD Trappers Association.

 Art is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, David (Kimberly) Yeske of Potosi, MO; daughter, Rochelle (Barry) Moorman of Union, N.J.; sister, Irene Hoff of Buford, N.C. and eight grandchildren, Samuel, Noah, Sheyanne, Shad, Riley, Shea, Mackenzie and Brandon.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Arnold, Otto Jr., Donald and Lester and five sisters, Clara Wille, Lydia Hayhurst, Esther Rowekamp, Ruth Fischer and Ella Grace.

 Honorary casketbearers will be Art's family and friends.

 Casketbearers will be Arlen Hayhurst, Tom Rowekamp, Clayton Fischer, Ronald Grace, Carl Eichler and Gary Ringgenberg.

 The organist will be Norma Dennert and the ushers will be Dwain Buntrock and Dwight Buntrock.
