Aberdeen: Funeral service for Violet G. Bertsch, 80, Aberdeen, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Hyle Anderson and Pastor Dean Bertsch will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Violet died on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, from 1 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 6 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Violet Grace Spitzer, daughter of Alfard and Lydia (Retzer) Spitzer, was born on Nov. 1, 1932, at Long Lake, S.D. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Long Lake and attended country school in McPherson County. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Long Lake.
Violet was united in marriage to Arthur Bertsch on Oct. 14, 1951, at Long Lake. The couple began making their home in Aberdeen on March 3, 1952. Over the years, Violet worked as a cook and waitress at various places. On the 10th anniversary of their marriage, Violet and Arthur were blessed with the birth of their son, Dean. They continued to make their home in Aberdeen, and in December 1974, Violet went to work at 3M, retiring in February 1988.
Violet was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.
Grateful for having shared Violet's life are her husband, Arthur Bertsch, Aberdeen; one son, Pastor Dean (Cheryl) Bertsch, Ringle, Wisc.; two grandsons: Phillip (Doni) Bertsch, Duncan, Okla., and Nicholas Bertsch, Fort Wayne, Ind.; one great-grandson, Däer Bertsch, two sisters: Linda (Phil) Schmit, Flushing, Mich., and Mary (Jim) Schaffer, Leola, S.D.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
