Portland, Ore.: Steven C. Grote, 65, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Aberdeen passed away on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Legacy Mt Hood in Gresham, Ore.
Steven was born Sept. 8, 1947, to Clarence and Ruth (Birkeland) Grote in Aberdeen. He grew up on the family farm near Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School in 1966. After high school, Steven joined the U.S. Air Force. Steven farmed near Aberdeen and worked as a machinist at Hub City Iron, Twin City Fan, Cardinal Tool, in Aberdeen and Boeing in Portland, Ore. He retired from Boeing.
Steven was an avid football fan and also enjoyed many camping trips in his RV. He was caring and always made time for others.
Grateful for having shared his life are his three children: Curtis White of Portland, Ore.; Stephanie Grote of Portland and Darrick Grote of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters: Deborah (Ron) Nelson of Mina, Rita (Greg) Beck of Aberdeen, Cheryl Goehring of Jordan, Minn.; his special cousin, Ward Grote of Richland, Wash. who was like a brother to Steven; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Ruth Grote; his sister, Karen Luce; nephew, Shane Luce; and great-nephew CJ Dow.
He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. A private family service will be held at a later date.
