Groton: Services for Clifford Hoops, 85, of Groton will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Groton. The Rev. Lloyd Redhage will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Cliff passed away Nov. 6, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Groton.
Clifford Warren Hoops was born on Dec. 27, 1926, in Groton to Alvin and Louise (Nolden) Hoops. He attended rural school at West Hanson and helped on the family farm. Cliff was drafted into the service in 1945 and served in the Army and Air Force. Following his discharge, he returned to South Dakota and began working at Bowles & Sour, later renamed Pioneer Ford, as a parts helper.
On June 2, 1949, he was united in marriage with Beulah Mae Meyers and together they had three children. Cliff was made parts manager that year and worked at the dealership for forty years before his retirement in 1989.
Cliff was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and American Legion Post No. 39, where he held various offices. He also belonged to the Ford Motor Company's parts and service club and had served as president for dealers in northern South Dakota and southern North Dakota. Cliff was active as a Cub Scout leader and served on the Groton City Council for 10 years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. As a family, they spent many weekends camping at local lakes. In later years, Cliff and Beulah enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Ariz., and he began doing zipper art.
Celebrating his life is his wife, Beulah; their children: Gary (Glenda) Hoops of Aloha, Ore., Douglas Hoops of Aloha, Ore., Debra (Roy) Olson of Groton; grandchildren: Christopher Hoops, Heidi (Steven) Johnson, Arick Hoops, Nicholas (Stephanie) Olson, Justin Olson; and stepgrandchildren: Danelle Siller and Cori Siller. Cliff is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Brittney Seaberger, Hayden
Seaberger and stepgreat-grandson, A.J. Rodriguez; and his siblings: Florence Bain, Gloria Hoops, Helen Breitkreutz, Gerald (JoAnn) Hoops, Kenneth (Loretta) Hoops; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Eunice Hoops; and brother, James Hoops.
Casketbearers will be: Tom Mahan, Dale Ringenberg, Ron Hoops, Don Hoops, Ben Schaller and Darwin Barrie.
