Luella Marie Bundrock Lewis was born in rural Kidder, S.D., on Oct. 11, 1921, to John and Ida (Tank) Bundrock. She grew up on the family farm near Kidder and graduated from Kidder High School in 1940.
On June 28, 1942, she was united in marriage with Wendell Warren Lewis at the Bundrock family farm. They were blessed with 69 1/2 years together. They made their home on the family farm north of Britton. For 30 years, they spent winters in Mesa, Ariz, making new friendships in addition to their lifelong friends in Britton. In 2001, they retired and moved to Britton. Wendell passed away March 7, 2012, at which time Luella moved to the Eastern Star Home in Redfield, S.D.
Luella was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 70 years, where she taught Sunday school for several years and was an active member of the Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed working in the yard and grew beautiful flowers. Luella was also known for her wonderful meals and baking talents. Many enjoyed her angel food cake and special frosting, especially her grandchildren. She often shared her faith with her grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are her five children: Larry (Alice) Lewis of Neenah, Wis.; Ron (Mary) Lewis of Brandon, S.D.; Rita (Kevin) Eikamp of Dysart, Iowa; Pat (Jeff) Payant of Redfield, S.D.; Sandi (LeRoy) Peterson of New London, Wis.; three sisters-in-law: Faythe (Jim) Rettinger of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Shirley Bundrock of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Vivian Bundrock of Corona, Calif. She was a blessed grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
