Marvin Peter Warns was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Wentworth, S.D., son of John and Ida (Rottluff) Warns. Marvin proudly served his country as a staff sergeant for the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning from the war, Marvin met the love of his life, Leona Huber. Marvin and Leona were united in marriage on Dec. 20, 1959, in McLaughlin. Together they made their home in Aberdeen for nearly 50 years, where Marvin worked for Herges, Kirchgasler, Geisler and Associates architectural firm as a building inspector. They moved to Inwood, Iowa, in 2008. Marvin enjoyed history, but his real passion for history was genealogy. Marvin was devoted to learning about all of his family history and even made a couple of family history books. Marvin also loved reading the newspapers and clipping out his favorite stories to pass on to others. He enjoyed helping people, and his house was always open for company. He cherished times spent with his family most.
Marvin is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Leona Warns, of Inwood; daughters, LeAnn Herrmann and her husband, Mike, of Fargo, N.D., and Paula Scholten and her husband, Delmer, of Inwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Nicole, Kyle, Kristin, Kayla, and Katelin Scholten and Dustin and Tara Herrmann; one brother: Phillip (Carolyn) Warns of Seattle, Wash.; and two sisters: Ruth (Elmer) Smith of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Ann Moe of Pacifica, Calif. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sibling; two brothers: Kenneth and Paul Warns; and a twin sister, Marian Tomell.
