Eleanor Komraus, 78, of Rockham, S.D., died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at her home. Her funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. The Rev. Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in the Rockham Cemetery. Closed casket visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
Eleanor was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Watertown, S.D. At an early age, Eleanor and her family moved to Minneapolis and later to Detroit, Mich. While in Detroit, she worked as a secretary for S.S. Kresge, the forerunner of K-Mart. She met John in Detroit and they were married Oct. 5, 1963. Their son, Keith, was born Oct. 10, 1972. In 1974, they moved to Rockham, S.D. Eleanor worked for John P. Shirk Nursing Home for a few years and South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield for 19 years, as a switchboard operator and direct care. She retired in 2002.
She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, baking, camping and watching QVC. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren.
Eleanor is survived by her husband, of 49 years, John, of Rockham; her son, Keith (Nikki) of Rockham and her grandchildren: Hannah, Abbey and Elliott. She is also survived by her aunt, Geraldine Dring, of Redfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Kolby.
