Gregg Allan Thompson was born on Aug. 10, 1955, to Charles and Arlene (Marks) Thompson at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Gregg graduated from Northwestern High School in Mellette, in 1973. He attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, graduating in 1977, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration-Management.
Gregg grew up on the Thompson family farm north of Northville; this is where his father injected the love of farming into his blood. Working hard in the fields at an early age on the farm, he was encouraged to participate in sports and enjoy time with friends, as long as the work was done. Over the years, he worked many different occupations, while experiencing life with a free spirit.
While farming the family farm, with his dad, it left winters available for his second love of his life . . . snowmobiling. He had stories to tell and many involved the snowmobile trips he would take to the Black Hills with all his many friends from South Dakota. He had been blessed to work as a farm manager for a farming operation stationed out of Fargo, N.D. They farmed many acres in different parts of South and North Dakota and Minnesota. The operation started farming land in Roseau County in 1997. Little did he know in 2000, he would fall in love with the love of his life and her family. He married the love of his life, KLynn Pigeon, on Dec. 31, 2005, in Roseau, Minn.
His favorite pastime was "hanging out with his honey," they loved doing things together, especially time with family and following Kiauni in basketball. He was one of her biggest fans, right next to her mom. Krystle looked up to him and he was always there for her. He always wanted to be there for both girls and support them and guide them into well-rounded adults. Not to mention the love held for his granddaughters, enjoying time with them and watching them play. Gregg had the wonderful opportunity this last year to be a mentor for his future son-in-law in regards to home ownership and his "jack-of-all-trades" experience.
He was active in the First Lutheran- First United Lutheran Church and served as President of the Church Council from 2006-2007.
Gregg's life ended suddenly here on earth on Nov. 15, 2012, at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau at age 57. He is in Heaven, with his parents, free of pain and breathing the fresh air of God's garden.
He is survived by his wife, KLynn of Roseau, Minn.; stepdaughters, Krystle Pigeon, (fiancée, Jevon Wallace) of Roseau and Kiauni Pigeon, currently attending Jamestown College; stepgranddaughters: Kalliann Solberg and Jayla Wallace both of Roseau; stepmother, Luella Thompson of Aberdeen; brother, Garry (Joan) Thompson of Pierre; sister, Dawn (Mark) Ruley of Baltimore, Md.; stepbrothers: Scott (Mary) Nelson of Mansfield and Stewart (Lisa) Nelson of Warner; in-laws, Earl and Marjorie Robinson of Roseau; brothers-in-law: Dean (Sally) Robinson, Richard (Connie) Robinson, Mark (Beth) Robinson, Ray (Sherri) Robinson, Scott (Becky) Robinson; sisters-in-law: Avis (Laurence) Wright, Cheryl (Larry) Eslick; and many nieces and nephews.
