In 1938, he met his true love, Hazel Heiser. In early 1941, Louie and his brother, Ernie, left South Dakota in search of work in Colorado. In April of that year, Hazel joined him in Denver and they were married on April 22, 1941. In September 1941, Louie became the first civilian employee at Lowry Field Air Base. In 1946, Louie began his life's work as Manager of the Northside Arrow Foods Store. He continued in the grocery business in Wessington Springs, S.D., and later in Woonsocket, S.D., where their children were born and raised. After their retirement in 1981, Louie and Hazel lived in Huron, S.D., and later moved to Aberdeen, S.D., where he worked part time at Ken's Fairway. Hazel passed away in March 2002 and Louie remained in Aberdeen until 2010, when he entered the Golden Living Center in Ipswich, S.D.
