Nick was born Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1984, to Jason Gill and Dianne Sudlow. He spent his early years in Leola. He attended grade school in Deadwood, where he loved being a part of the Cub Scouts and playing Little League baseball.
He went to high school in Leola, where he was active in football, band, basketball, wrestling and track. Nick graduated from Leola High School in 2003. He then attended Northern State University, where he received bachelor's degrees in business management and banking and financing.
After college, Nick continued to make Leola his home. He enjoyed his work with kids at the Dakota House and later as a caregiver in group home settings. He found profound enjoyment in helping young people find their way in life. His love for working with youth led him to giving back to his community, where he had coached Little League baseball.
Nick liked to trap, hunt, fish and work on cars. He was a natural at body work. He enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with others. He also enjoyed stock car racing and had even raced in several enduros. Nick played softball in Aberdeen, where his personality shined among many new friends.
Ultimately, Nick was an unassuming and giving young man that touched the lives of many. He loved to make others laugh and to leave them with a smile.
