Watertown: Ramona M. Bale, 79, of Watertown passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Golden Living Center after a brief hospitalization.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown. The Rev. Kent Stillson will officiate.
Visitation will be Thursday for one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Ramona Maria Bale was born May 6, 1933, to Maurice and Josephine (Parsley) Riley in Watertown. She attended Immaculate Conception School through the ninth grade and graduated from Watertown High School in 1951.
Mona married Clayton Bale on Feb. 2, 1952, in Watertown. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Langenfeld's Dairy. In 1954, Mona and Clayton moved to Spokane, Wash., where she was employed as a cashier/bookkeeper for Silver Loaf Baking Co. In 1956, the couple moved to Minneapolis, where Mona was a bookkeeper for Erickson Petroleum Co. for eight years. Mona was then a stay-at-home mom for 12 years. In 1973, they moved to Aberdeen, and Mona was a bookkeeper and partner with her husband at Hub City Transit Co. They retired in September 1998 and returned to live at Lake Kampeska in Watertown. Clayton passed away June 17, 2012.
Mona was always involved in her children's education and schools, and was president of the Aberdeen Central High School parent group in 1983. She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, doing crossword puzzles reading and spending her summers at the lake and the winters in the south. Mona especially enjoyed the times she spent with her grandsons.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Elks Club in Aberdeen and Watertown and belonged to the Red Hatters in Watertown.
Ramona is survived by her children: Stuart Bale (Isabelle Sodini) of Berkeley, Calif., and Sandy (Steve) Windingland of West Fargo, N.D.; two grandsons: Luke Windingland and Hugo Orlando Bale; her sister, Gloria Keith of St. Louis Park, Minn.; and two brothers: Maurice Riley Jr. of Portland, Ore., and Earl Popham Jr. of Estelline.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clayton, of 60 years; a sister, Audrey Friedl; and two brothers: David and James Riley.
