Scottie Gilbert was born Nov. 26, 1964, in Hill City, Kan., to William (Scotch) and Lovina (Frost) Gilbert. They moved to the Promise area in 1971. Scottie went to school in Mobridge, and throughout his life, he worked as a firefighter in the Black Hills, was a cook at the Eagles in Mobridge, where everyone loved his specialty (Scott's Onion Rings). He also worked for Gasco, where he would clean the area stores, and at the same time, held down a daytime job at Deluxe Car Wash in Aberdeen. From there, he went to work at Wal-Mart as a night supervisor over maintenance, where he has worked until the time of his death. Scottie had also worked at Simmons Middle School until it got to be too much working the two jobs. Scottie had been fighting stage four lung cancer and finally lost the battle.
Scottie married Angela Marie Stango on Oct. 23, 1990, in Selby. They lived in Mobridge, where Scottie and Angel owned a cleaning business for awhile. Shortly after their daughter Sarah was born, they moved to Aberdeen.
Grateful for having shared Scottie's life are his wife, Angela, daughter, Sarah (Dylon) Johnson, and one grandson Scott Edward Lee Johnson, all of Aberdeen; father, William (Carol) Gilbert, Mobridge; one brother, Bill (Christy) Gilbert, Mobridge; two sisters: Trina Kostad, Helena, Mont., and Cherrie Gilbert, Pierre; one stepbrother, Vernon, of Mobridge; two stepsisters, Christy of Mobridge and Verla of Salem; mother and father-in-law, Tony and Mary Stango of Lowry; brother-in-law, Tony (Steph) Stango, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Lovina Gilbert; sister Cheryl in infancy; and his grandparents; Will Gilbert and Ethel Marshall.
