Ada Mae Sumption was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Aberdeen to Guy and Ada (Taskerud) Sumption. She was raised and went to school in the Frederick area.
Ada Mae was united in marriage to Eugene Earl McDonald on June 28, 1947, in Aberdeen. The couple farmed northeast of Aberdeen in the Tacoma Park area for nine years before moving west to Selby. In 1956, they acquired a local trucking firm and Eugene began to do long-haul trucking in the Selby area. In 1990, Eugene and Ada Mae moved to Black Hawk to continue the trucking business. Ada Mae and Eugene enjoyed nearly 59 years of marriage before he passed away in April 2006. Ada Mae then moved to Aberdeen, where she continued to reside until the time of her death.
Surviving Ada Mae are her four sons: Delwyn R. (Barbara) McDonald of Tucson, Ariz.; Larry E. (Mary) McDonald of Clearwater, Fla.; Clark J. (Sue) McDonald of Benson, Minn.; and Leon R. McDonald of Aberdeen; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two brothers: Raymond Sumption and Willard Sumption, both of Frederick. Ada Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister and six brothers.
Ada Mae will always be remembered for her outgoing spirit and friendly personality. She was most proud of her accomplishments and her family. Focusing on her good health was always a full-time passion.
