Richard 'Dick' L. Stevens

 Funeral service for Richard "Dick" L. Stevens, 85, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, with Father Shane Stevens presiding. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Aberdeen.

 Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the mortuary.

 Richard passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

 Richard Lyle Stevens was born on April 13, 1927, at Aberdeen, S.D., to Lyle J. and Hazel (Ebert) Stevens. This is the area where he was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School.

 Richard enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on July 21, 1945, at Minneapolis. He served his country during World War II and received his honorable discharge on August 30, 1945.

 Richard was united in marriage to Jeanette Ione Hoven at Bowdle, S.D., on Oct. 18, 1948. He was employed as the office manager for American Freight for 27 years. Richard and Jeanette shared 48 years of marriage before she passed away in May 1993.

 Richard became a resident of Aberdeen Health and Rehab on May 5, 2011, and continued to reside there until the time of his death.

 He enjoyed raising and showing registered quarter horses, playing cards and attending Northern State University sporting events.

 Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette; and his brothers and sisters.

 He is survived by many nieces, nephews and his good friend and caregiver, Jim (Tammy) Weiszhaar of Aberdeen.
