The funeral service for Irene Oster, 88, of Aberdeen will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Zion  Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, Pastor Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Irene passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Irene Goetz was born on Sept. 25, 1924, in Java, S.D. She was one of eight children born to Charles and Magdaline (Shock) Goetz. She resided in the Java area until her marriage to Ted Oster on April 4, 1944, in Java. Ted preceded her in death in 1984.

Irene and Ted moved to Aberdeen, where they raised two daughters. She entered the work force and was at Kresge's and K-Mart for 26 years. By the time she retired, she had worked her way into the position of Personnel Manager.

Irene enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always eager for the opportunity to spend time with family, sharing lots of love and laughter.

Perhaps one of her greatest joys was working with the quilting group at Zion Lutheran Church. This small but mighty group of ladies spent countless hours stitching for mission outreach, children's book bags and the annual bazaar quilt raffle. She loved the fellowship with the others and their friendship and creations brought great delight to her. Irene also gained great pleasure from her participation in all activities involving her church. Two of her favorite people were Pastor Marcia Sylvester and Pastor Tanya Rist.

Irene had a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eye. She will always be greatly missed by many.

Grateful for having shared Irene's life are her daughters: Chloe (Ryan) Powell of Sioux Falls and Pam (Tom) Dumas of Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Erna Schmierer of Aberdeen.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; her parents, Charles and Magdaline; six brothers; and one sister.
