Ellendale, N.D.: Betty J. Kosel, 71, of Ellendale died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale.
Betty was born Dec. 4, 1941, to Joseph and Rose Marie (Zimmerman) Heintzman in Hillsview. She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hillsview. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Aberdeen, where she attended St. Mary's Catholic School. After her father died, her family moved to Guelph, N.D., where she attended school for a short period of time, then went to work in Ellendale.
On Nov. 13, 1959, Betty married Kenny Kosel in Redfield, and they made their home mostly in Ellendale, but also in Wall, Fullerton, N.D., and Long Lake. Betty worked as a childcare provider for many years before working for Kosel's Four Seasons Department Store in Ellendale. In 1985, Betty began helping Kenny in the meat market. After closing the meat market, Betty worked at various jobs in the community, including the Nodak Cafe and the Fireside Restaurant. Betty enjoyed working with people, clerking her husband's auction sales, antiques, the Minnesota Twins, following her grandchildren's activities, playing pinochle on her iPad and cooking. Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale and she was involved in O.P.E.R.A.
Betty is survived by two sons: Todd (Loni) Kosel, Edgeley, N.D., and Russell (Merle) Kosel, Ellendale, N.D.; two daughters: Carmen (Mike) Divine, Mesa, Ariz., and Holly (Chris) Carr, Redfield; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lucy (Dave) Braach, Missoula, Mont., and Sandy (Dennis) Jacobson, Oakes, N.D.; one half-brother, Bryan (Holly) Salo, Montpelier, N.D.; two brothers-in-law: Don (Claudette) Kosel, Ashley, N.D., and Ron (Maxine) Kosel, Ellendale, N.D.; five sisters-in-law: Shirley Strand, Linton, N.D., Bernice (Norman) Kruckenberg, Enumclaw, Wash., Evelyn (Iver) Oster, Enumclaw Wash., Carol and Kathy Kosel, both of Ellendale, N.D.; and 29 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; mother and father in laws; one sister, Julia Tabbert; four brothers-in-law: Howard Kosel, Edward Strand, Herman Kuebler and Art Tabbert; one sister-in-law, Debra Kosel; and one nephew, Kent Kruckenberg.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale, with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Hoven Funeral Chapel in Ellendale.
Burial will be in Ellendale City Cemetery.
