The funeral service for Julius "Dale" Schipke, 63, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Nathan Henschen officiating. Military honors will be provided by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Dale died Monday, Feb. 18, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Julius Dale Schipke was born to Arthur E. and Christine (Huft) Schipke on May 17, 1949, in Aberdeen. The family lived on a farm east of Roscoe until 1954, when the family moved to Aberdeen. Dale was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Roscoe on July 10, 1949, and was confirmed at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Aberdeen on June 16, 1963. Dale graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1967. He entered the US Navy shortly after graduation and was a navigator on the USS Hornet from 1968 to 1972, when he was honorably discharged.
Dale married Barbara Heintzman Fauth on Nov. 28, 1975, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He worked for Stauffer Concrete for awhile. For over 34 years, he worked for Dakota Supply Group as a quoter in the electrical department. He retired on Dec. 31, 2011.
Dale was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He enjoyed doing projects at home. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his son, Matthew and grandchildren, Hunter and Natalia.
Grateful for having shared Dale's life are his wife, Barbara; son, Matthew (Carrie) Schipke, of Northville; daughter, Jennifer Fauth of Northville; grandchildren: Hunter and Natalia Schipke; two brothers: LaFay (Sharon) Schipke and Roger (Ruby) Schipke; sister, Beverly Borchard, all of Aberdeen; and many nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Christine Schipke; his niece, Carrie Schipke; and his brother-in-law, David E. Borchard.
The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
