 The funeral for Norma (Mrs. Arnold) Beck, 79, of rural Amherst will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the First Lutheran Church of Britton.

 Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the church, with an 8 p.m. prayer service.

 Norma passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton.

Rodney 'Rod' C. Schilling

 Rodney "Rod" C. Schilling, 54, died on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in Omaha, Neb.

 Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family greeting friends until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Wells Fargo location.

 Rodney Calvin Schilling was born June 1, 1958, in Mobridge, S.D., to Calvin and Dora (Kappel) Schilling. He received his education in Selby, graduating from Selby High School. He then continued his education at Northern State College in Aberdeen. Following college, Rod worked in Selby until being united in marriage with Jocelyn Keller in April 1984. From this union, the couple was blessed with three sons. The family moved to Sioux Falls in 1991. Rod worked for Schwan's food service from 1991 until 2002 and has been employed with Mountain View Marketing since 2005.

 Rod enjoyed spending time with his sons, golfing, fishing, running, gardening and yard work. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics fan. Above all, he loved his boys; especially cooking for them on Sunday evenings. He was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed.

 Grateful for having shared his life are his three sons: Carson Schilling, Spencer Schilling, and Connor Schilling all of Sioux Falls; granddaughter, Leila Barta of Gayville; mother, Dora Schilling of Selby; seven siblings: Karen Kuhns, Huron, Vickie (Harlan) Gates, Aberdeen, Pam Rhodes, Newton, Kan., Jay (Vicki) Schilling, Rapid City, Scott Schilling, Selby, Jolene (Brad) Lappe, Rapid City and Charles (Vicki) Schilling, Selby; sister-in-law, Pam Schilling, Blackhawk; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 Rod is preceded in death by his father, Calvin Schilling; and one brother, Myron Schilling.

 Mass of Christian burial for Caroline Frances Hare, 89, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 Third Ave. S.E., Aberdeen, with Father Shaun Haggerty officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

 Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

 Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake service and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday.

 Caroline passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

 Blessed be her memory.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Roncalli Foundation Inc.

 Caroline Frances Schoch was born on Aug. 21, 1923, to Ludwig and Kathrain (Gabriel) Schoch in Hosmer.

 Caroline was united in marriage to Melvin "Pat" Hare on Jan. 21, 1945, in Lodi, Calif. In 1949, the couple moved to Aberdeen, where she attended Northern State College and majored in education. Caroline earned her bachelor of science degree in 1961 and a master of science degree in 1964 and then continued her education and became certified as a reading consultant and psychological examiner.

 Her career in education began in 1959, teaching fourth grade for the Aberdeen School District. After five years, Caroline became a Title I reading teacher and psychological examiner for the district. She retired in 1987, but continued to help with the testing program for a number of years. She was the first retired teacher to be picked as Educator Plus by the American Education Association.

Following retirement, Caroline continued to remain active in the community. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Caroline enjoyed traveling extensively and spending time with her family and friends. Her greatest passion was reading and she was never without a book. Caroline and Pat shared over 32 years of marriage before he passed away on Feb. 22, 1977. She continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.

 Blessed to have shared her life are her children: Patrick Hare of Campbellsport, Wis., Donna (Gerard) Roberts of Steamboat Springs, Colo., James (Linda) Hare of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Margaret (Tom) Guhin of Aberdeen, Kathy (David) Housel of Houston, Texas, and Bonnie (Dave) Feist of Cedar Falls, Iowa; her brothers: Hank (Ester) Schoch and Ludwig (Peggy) Schoch, both of Lodi, Calif.; one sister, Helen (Romaine) Kocer of Wagner; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Leland 'Butch' Kruse

 Funeral service for Leland "Butch" Kruse, 67, of Wetonka will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Hyle Anderson and Pastor Brian Idt officiating. Burial will be in the Pembrook Cemetery.

 Butch died on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at his home.

 Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, from 1 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

 Leland Kruse, son of Harris and Letha (Angerhofer) Kruse was born on March 30, 1945, in Aberdeen. He was raised on the family farm near Wetonka and attended country school at Pembrook School. Butch went on to graduate from Barnard High School.

 Butch enrolled at Northern State College and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education, graduating in 1969. He made his home in Corsica, where he taught business education classes.

 Butch was united in marriage to Beth Gerlach on Aug. 18, 1973, in Dimock. They made their home in Corsica during the school year and returned home to the family farm in the summer months. In 1980, they permanently moved back to the farm, where they raised their family. Butch remained on the farm raising his registered Black Angus cattle until the time of his death.

 Butch was a member of the American Angus Association and St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was also a fan of Northern State University basketball. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and also enjoyed attending all of his children's activities. Butch was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and cherished the time he was able to spend with his family.

 Grateful for having shared Butch's life are his wife, Beth, of Wetonka; two daughters: Dr. Traci (Amod Damle) Kruse, Marshall, Minn. and Terri Kruse, Aberdeen; one son, Tim (Megan Petersen) Kruse, Ames, Iowa; granddaughter, Anisha Damle; and one sister, Darlene Stenning.

 Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Letha Kruse; father-in-law, Martin Gerlach; and two brothers-in-law: Bruce Gerlach and Frank Stenning.

 Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Faulkton. Burial at the Groton Union Cemetery, Groton.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, with a 6:30 p.m. rosary service and 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Delwin Tullis

Delwin Tullis, 73, of Groton died Saturday Feb. 2, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Groton.

 His funeral was 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Groton with visitation at 10 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Craig Grahams officiated. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

 Delwin Albert Tullis was born on Nov. 27, 1939, to Albert and Lillian (Hoops) Tullis at Groton, S.D. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He attended Joan of Arc rural school near the family farm. In 1957, he graduated from Groton High School. After graduation, he attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., where he held track records in high jump. He also served in the National Guard.

 In 1965, he was joined in marriage to Sharon Hite. To this union, four children were born. The family made their home on the Tullis family farm. Together with his father and brothers, they farmed and milked cows.

 In the mid-1980s, Delwin shifted gears and drove bus for the Groton School District. He was also the maintenance manager at the Dakota Square Apartments in Aberdeen.

Delwin's grandkids were his pride and joy. He loved every minute he could spend with them.

 Delwin passed away Saturday Feb. 2, 2013, at Groton, S.D., at the age of 73 years two months, and six days.

He is survived by his children: Cheryl Tullis of Aberdeen, Glenda (Seth) Schaffer of Brimfield, Ill., and Jesse (Nichole) Tullis of Groton; one brother, Greg Tullis, of Burnsville, Minn.; one sister, Janet Neff, of Claremont; four grandchildren: Noah and Cadance Tullis and Lillian and Ross Schaffer.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timmy; and one brother, Roland.

Adam Douglas Linder

Funeral service for Adam Douglas Linder, 26, of Branson, Mo., and formerly of Aberdeen will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.

 There will be a prayer service Thursday at 7 p.m., with visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

 Adam died Jan. 29, 2013, in Springfield, Mo.

 Adam Douglas Linder, son of Douglas and Christine (Currie) Linder was born on Dec. 26, 1986, in Aberdeen, S.D. He attended school in Aberdeen before moving to Andover and then to Warner. In 1998, he moved with his mother to Blue Eye, Mo., where he graduated from Blue Eye High School in 2006.

 Adam worked as a cook at restaurants in the Branson and Blue Eye, Mo., area. He was a self-taught base guitarist and he loved to write and play music. Jamming with other musicians was his favorite pastime and they called him "Adam VonDoom".

 Shooting video of his friends, family and exploits was fun for all. Adam was very creative with his art, video and music.

 Adam is survived by his father, Doug (Carol Kautz) Linder of Aberdeen; his mother, Christine Albrecht of Branson, Mo.; two sisters: Andrea (Mohammed) Linder-Amer of Leesville, La., and Jazmine Fahlsing of Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Logan Linder of Branson, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Harry and Myrna Linder of Aberdeen; paternal grandmother, Bettie Linder of Ipswich; fiancée, Cassie Gendreau of Nixa, Mo.; aunts and uncles: Gary and Janet Linder, Debbie and Roger Meyers, Sharlene and Myron Duff, Patricia Davies, Dawn and Steve Mauk, and Rod and Theresa Huff; cousins: Cory Linder, Travis Linder, Brandi (Tucker) Tonkel, Jesse (Michelle) Rystrom, Heather (Tony) Tryon, Jonathan Davies, Kelly and Kevin Birkla and Cameron and Hailey Huff.

 He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Karen Currie; and one sister, Shelby Paige Linder who died on Aug. 28, 2009.

 Casketbearers will be: Kevin Birkla, Cameron Huff, Jesse Rystrom, Jon Davies, Wallace Kautz, Rod Huff, Steve Mauk and Tucker Tonkel.

Edythe Hjermstad, 92, of Groton and formerly of Webster died on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at her son's home near Groton.

 Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, the Rev. Daniel Ostercamp will officiate. Burial will be at Webster Cemetery.

 Visitation will be at  Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 5-7 p.m. and prior to services on Friday.

 Edythe Elizabeth Murschel was born on Thursday, May 13, 1920, to John and Gertrude (Soyland) Murschel in Webster. The family made their home near Butler. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school in Butler and graduated from Butler High School.

 On June 26, 1948, she was united in marriage to Orval Hjermstad in Webster. After their marriage, the couple made their home in several towns including Roslyn, Watertown, Webster and Puyallup, Wash. In 1967, they returned to Webster where they operated a retail store for a short time. She worked at various jobs over the years, including Bethesda Home for 23 years until retirement. Orval passed away in Feb. 1985. After his death, she continued to live in Webster where she volunteered at Needs Anonymous. For the past five years, she has resided with her son near Groton.

 Edythe was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster, where she was active in Circle and W.E.L.C.A. She loved watching sports, including the Boston Celtics, Chicago Cubs and N.Y. Yankees. She also loved watching and feeding the birds and playing cards with the grandchildren on holidays or whenever they would visit. Her favorite moments were when Shelby and grandma would give "static" back and forth to each other.

 Survivors include two sons: Russel (Emily) Hjermstad of Bellevue, Neb., and Randy Hjermstad of Groton; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Earl; and one sister, Vivian Solberg.

John Edward Carl Karjalainen

John Edward Carl Karjalainen, 88, of Hot Springs passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs.

 John served in the U.S. Army from 1944, until his honorable discharge in 1946.

 In 1966, John married Marcelene Fleming. They had one son. In 1991, John married Patricia Mueller.

 John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcelene; and four brothers.

 He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Hot Springs; son, Brett, of Erie, Colo.; brothers: Elmer and Fred of Aberdeen; five stepchildren; and nine grandchildren.

 Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

 Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Dwayne Hunzeker officiating.

 Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

 In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in John's name to benefit St. John's Lutheran Church or the Naja Shrine Hospital Travel Fund, 4091 Sturgis Road, Rapid City, SD 57702.

 Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
