 Darrell was born to Phil and Zeldia Bukaske on May 12, 1935, at the Bukaske farm at Loyalton. He resided at the family farm until his death, which had always been his wish. He enjoyed farming and his family. He attended Loyalton school through sixth grade. Darrell died May 29, 2013, surrounded by loving family at the Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, N.D.

 Darrell is survived by daughters: Debra (Neal) Anderson of Winchester, N.Y., Lorna (Mike) Lahammer of Mount Vernon, Iowa, Wanda (Duane Bentz) of Bismarck, N.D., Tamra (Jerry) Zimmerman of Garrison, N.D., Twyla Sattler of Brentford; sons: Kelly of York, Neb., and Kerry (Emily) of Valentine, Neb.; a very special nephew, Gil Vuljoin of Ponatoc, La., and a special friend, Pauline Cook of Yuma, Colo.; 23 grandchildren: Tina (Justin) King, Clarissa (Brad) Pikcilingis, Jason (Amanda) Anderson, Todesa (Brandon) Smiley, Desiree Rieger, Brittney Rieger, Lonna Rieger, Travis (Nicky) Bukaske, Shawn (Toni) Bukaske, Lance (Jessica) Zimmerman, Natasha Zimmerman, Jerad Zimmerman, Tonya (JR) Kerzmann, Samantha (Christo) Wolmarans, Kaija Haar, Kaitlyn Sattler, Schyler Sattler, Reed Sattler, Tyler Bukaske, Tanna Bukaske, Tristan Bukaske, Trevor Bukaske, Trey Bukaske; and 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Anderson of Roscoe; and one brother, Jr. Bukaske, of New Orleans, La.

 Funeral services for Toni Swanson, 86, of Chamberlain will be Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church and burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church, beginning at 5 p.m. with family present and a prayer service at 7 p.m.

 Edna Theone "Toni" Teesdale was born at home in rural Stickney on Nov. 9, 1926, to Effie (Brink) Teesdale and Earl Teesdale. She attended Stickney schools and graduated from Stickney High School.

 On June 27, 1954, Toni was united in marriage to Rudolph E. "Rudy" Swanson at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain, and to this union five children were born: Lisa, Ingrid, Sally, Lowell, and Bonnie. They made their home on the farm until 1999, when they moved to Chamberlain. She resided at the Regency Retirement Assisted Living in Chamberlain.

 Toni enjoyed her children and grandchildren, gardening, church activities, being a 4H leader, sewing, canning, and especially her sweets. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and family.

 Toni was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain. She enjoyed being a part of the Ladies Aide, teaching Sunday school, helping at various church events and other activities.

 Toni passed away on May 31, 2013, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls at the age of 86 years. 

 Gratefully sharing her life are her five children: Lisa Bialas of Mitchell, Ingrid Grode-Fischer (Ray) of Ipswich, Sally Swanson (Steve) of Aberdeen, Lowell Swanson (Colleen) of Pukwana and Bonnie Graeve (Joe) of Simi Valley, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Mable Ening of Sioux Falls and Wilma Tuttle of Mitchell.

 Preceding her in death were her husband, Rudolph Swanson; granddaughter, Jessica Grode; parents, Earl and Effie Teesdale; and siblings, Vivian Meoska and Maynard Teesdale.

 James "Jim" Edward Palmer was born Oct. 20, 1955, to Joe and Monica (Keller)Palmer in Aberdeen, S.D. He lived with his parents and his older sister, Joan, in Bowdle, S.D., until he was 4 years old, when the family moved to Aberdeen. Jim lived his entire childhood in Aberdeen, where he attended Catholic grade school and graduated from Roncalli High School in 1973. He then attended the University of South Dakota and graduated with a bachelors degree in accounting in 1977. While attending USD, he spent summers in Aberdeen, where he worked for Northwestern Bell. During the first summer of his freshman year, he met Debbie Nordling, the girl he would marry on May 19, 1978. After their marriage, Deb joined him in Pierre, where they lived and raised their two sons: Drew Ryan, born in 1983, and Bryan James, born in 1988.

 Jim's first job after graduation from college was with Fischer, Buckles and Associates in Pierre in 1977. Jim started working for McGladrey and Pullen in Pierre from 1989 to 2005, which then became Palmer Currier and Hoffert in October 2005.

 Jim's proudest moments revolved around his "boys." On Dec. 27, 2009, he became a grandpa for the first time to Alaire James. He enjoyed life, especially his beloved Miami Dolphins, music, movies of all kinds, animals and being around his family and friends. Jim and Deb are truly blessed to have so many friends that they have made over the years living in the Pierre area.

 He is survived by his wife, Debra, of Pierre; sons: Drew (Anna) Palmer and Bryan (Rachel Muldbakken) Palmer; one granddaughter; his parents, Joe and Monica Palmer; and one sister, Joan Palmer.

Aberdeen: The funeral service for Gaylen Olsen, 93, of Aberdeen will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating.

 Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, with military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24.

 Gaylen died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services.

 Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with family present from 4 to 6 p.m., at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., and from 1:30 p.m. until the service at the church on Monday.

 Gaylen K. Olsen was born Jan. 13, 1920, to Sigurd and Ada (Tviet) Olsen in Frederick, S.D. He grew up and helped his father on the family farm. Gaylen received his education at country schools in the Frederick area. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and honorably served his country in World War II.

 On June 28, 1947, Gaylen married Gladys Marie Harrington in Frederick. They moved to Aberdeen and Gaylen started his career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Gaylen and Gladys were active in Aberdeen Telco Federal Credit Union, now known as Consolidated Hub-Co Federal Credit Union. Gaylen retired after 32 years with Northwestern Bell. Gladys passed away on Dec. 9, 2005, in Aberdeen.

 Gaylen was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where both he and Gladys were very active volunteers. Gaylen drove the church bus and spent many hours working on the yard at the church. He was a proud member of the American Legion in Aberdeen. In his younger years, Gaylen enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to golf and was an avid bowler. Woodworking was a favorite pastime of Gaylen's.

 Grateful for having shared Gaylen's life are his son, Michael (Pat) Olsen, Aberdeen; daughter, Gaileen (Jerry) Gramling, Mandan, N.D.; two sisters: Eileen and Teresa; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Sigurd and Ada; his loving wife, Gladys; one daughter; four brothers: Roland, Roger, E. Merrile and Sigurd Olsen; and two sisters: Virginia and Catherine.

Robert D. 'Bob' Baer

Roscoe: The funeral service for Robert D. "Bob" Baer, 75, of Roscoe will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roscoe.

 Interment with military honors will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Roscoe.

 Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Gramm Funeral Home, 720 N. Sixth St., in Ipswich.

 Bob was born Jan. 19, 1938, on the family farm west of Loyalton, S.D., and south of Roscoe, to Jacob C. and Hulda (Miller) Baer. He attended a one-room country school just a half mile from the farm. The schoolhouse even had a barn for ponies. He graduated from Roscoe High School in 1956 and then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen for two years.

 He was joined in marriage to Joanne Krein of Leola, S.D. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted in to the U.S. Army, and they spent the next few years in Fort Sill, Okla. He reached the rank of specialist 4 before being honorably discharged as a clerk in an artillery unit in 1962.

They returned home with their son, Scott Lee, and lived with his parents before moving into their own home. Bob's wife, Joanne, died just a few short years later in 1968. Bob and his son continued working in the family farming operation.

Bob moved to Ipswich a few years ago and, recently, his failing health led him to Golden Living Center in Ipswich.

 He loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed farm life and working with cattle, as well as visiting with many friends. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Roscoe and of the American Legion.

 Bob passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

 He is survived by his son, Scott Baer of Roscoe; two brothers: Orville Baer of Roscoe and James (Pam) Baer of Onaka, S.D.; four grandchildren: Angela (Eric) Miles of Watertown, Courtney Baer of Ipswich, Olivia Baer of Roscoe and Jacob Baer of Ipswich; and one great-grandchild, Brekken Miles of Watertown.

 His parents and wife preceded him in death.

Aberdeen: The funeral service for Anne Kiesz Ruby Heitz, 95, of Aberdeen and formerly of Ipswich, will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Gramm Funeral Home, 720 N. Sixth St., in Ipswich.

 Interment will follow at the Ipswich City Cemetery.

Visitation will be noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Gramm Funeral Home in Ipswich.

 Anne was born on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1918, to Christian and Christina (Gugel) Kiesz on a farm near Leola, SD. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. Anne later earned her GED.

 She married Bruce Ruby, and to this union four children were born: Roland, Floyd, Myrna and Elda. Bruce died in combat during World War II, just a short time after their youngest child was born. He is buried in France.

 Anne later married Richard Heitz. They made their home in Ipswich, and to this union five more children were born: Carolyn, Mary, Gary, Warren and Harlan. Anne worked as cook in restaurants in Ipswich.

 While raising her family was of utmost importance to Anne, she also found a way to give much too many in the area. She loved to garden and liked all kinds of flowers, especially roses. Her huge gardens featured large colorful sections of flowers. While raising vegetables in her gardens to help feed her large growing family, she always featured flowers as a focal point. During times that her flowers were in full bloom, she would harvest flowers and have her children deliver them to everyone who was hospitalized in the Ipswich Community Hospital. She also created valentines for veterans and was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

 She had a passion for history and really enjoyed writing Ipswich history. She was instrumental in the painting of the mural in downtown Ipswich. Anne also found time to draw, and left many wonderful drawing for her family to enjoy.

 Anne died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.

 She is survived by her children: Myrna (Vernie) Stillings of Salina, Kansas, Elda (Ron) Hoffer of Roscoe, Carolyn Hamak of Sturgis, Mary (Ed) Sorensen of Richfield, Minn., Gary (Arlene) Heitz of Wetmore, Kansas, Warren (Deb) Heitz of Aberdeen, S.D., and Harlan (Lynette) Heitz of Mina, S.D.; 31 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence Job of Bend, Ore.; three sisters: Elaine Job Horanmann Winkler of Sioux Falls, S.D., Janice Job Hammrich of Belfair, Wash., and Lila Job Rose of Deaver, Wyo.; and daughter-in-law, Janice (Floyd) Ruby of Graham, Wash.

Her parents; stepfather, Gust Job; both husbands; two sons: Roland and Floyd; brothers and sisters: Elmer, Albert and Alfred Kiesz, Reinold, Eddie, Arnold, and Raymond Job, as well as Virginia Job-Peterson and Joanie Job Smith, preceded her in death.

 Bob passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, in Wendell, N.C.

 Robert R. Stewart was born Feb. 12, 1932, to Roy and Thelma Stewart in Gettysburg.

 He attended Aberdeen Central High School and was one of the first CHS athletes to earn nine letters at Central; three in football, three in basketball and three in track. Football: Bob started at end his junior and senior years. His teams won two ESD championships. Basketball: Bob was the starting center on the basketball team all three years. Their team won the state consolation his junior year, and won the State A Championship his senior year when the basketball team went undefeated. Bob set two scoring records: highest score in a single game and total highest score in all three championship games. Both records stood for 10 years. Bob was named to the "All Tournament Team" and also elected co-team captain by his teammates for his senior year. Track and field: In all three of his high school years, Bob won the pole vaulting competition at the Aberdeen Relays. In the state track meet, he was the runner-up in the pole vault all three years and placed second in the shot put as a senior. He also competed in the long jump, discus and mile relay. He was also inducted into the Aberdeen Central Sports Hall of Fame and the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

 Upon graduation, Bob earned a full basketball scholarship to the University of Colorado, and was captain of the basketball team his senior year. While at the University of Colorado, he received eight letters: four for basketball, and two each for football and baseball. He was inducted into the University of Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. He met his wife, Jackie Holder, while attending the University of Colorado, where he was in Sigma Nu Fraternity.

 Bob was a lieutenant in the US Army and a company commander for two years. He also earned a LLB at the University of South Dakota. He was vice president, territory director for AFLAC Insurance. He was responsible for the sales efforts of the western half of the United States.

 Together, Bob and Jackie raised five children: Robert R. Stewart Jr. (Connie), Richard H., John "Bill" William (Barbara), Elizabeth "Becky," and James D. (Lori).

 In lieu of flowers, Bob's family prefers memorials be made in his memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.

Denver, Colo.: Florence Meier, 94, of Denver died March 7, 2013.

 A service to honor her memory will be held at the Fiksdal Funeral Chapel, 122 W. Fifth Ave., in Webster on Saturday, June 8, at 2 p.m.

 Internment will be at the Webster Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the chapel basement.
