Rose Marie (Huneger) Strickland

Aberdeen: Rose Marie (Huneger) Strickland, 90, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, where she resided for many years.

 Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 Second Ave. N.E., Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, next to her husband, Elton "Bob" Strickland.

 Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign her online guestbook at schriversmemorial.com.

 Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church on Saturday.

 Rose was born Jan. 14, 1923, to John and Elizabeth (Senger) Huneger in Aberdeen. She attended schools at St. Mary's Catholic School, Central High School and Aberdeen Business College.

 In August 1942, she and three friends went to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the War Department, Adjutant Generals Office and War Assets Administration.

 On April 16, 1947, Rose married Bob Strickland. The couple made their home in D.C. until 1957, when they moved to Aberdeen, where Rose was employed at the Indian Health Service and Internal Revenue Office in Aberdeen until the time of her retirement in 1980. Rose continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.

 She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She was active in Catholic Daughters of America, Serra Club International, Catholic Aid, St. Mary's Altar Society, St. Luke's Auxiliary, and NARFE Chapter 0584 of Aberdeen.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and one infant sister.

 Survivors include one daughter, Roberta (Jim Scharber) of Wahkon, Minn.; one son, Timothy (Joyce) Strickland of Aberdeen; one sister, Agnes Villano of Hot Springs; three grandchildren: Sonja Viramontes of Austin, Texas, John (Michelle) Forst of Omaha, Neb., and Thomas Strickland of Mobridge; as well as five great-grandchildren: Andy, Chanley, Megan, Isabella and Geneieve; and several nieces and nephews.
