Carol Mae Storley

Carol Mae Storley, 75, of Aberdeen passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday evening, April 28, 2013.

 Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 502 S. Lincoln St., Aberdeen, with Pastor Eldon Reich, Pastor Tom Haggar and Dr. John Hisel presiding. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Aberdeen at a later date.

 Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

 Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

 The family requests memorials be given to the Church Landscape Committee of First United Methodist Church.

 Carol Mae Siglin was born in Webster on Aug. 10, 1937, to Lawrence and Tillie (Aukima) Siglin. After graduating from Webster High School, she furthered her education at South Dakota State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics.

 Carol was united in marriage to DeWayne Storley on June 15, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Webster. Following their marriage, Carol taught home economics in Groton until the couple moved to Bemidji, Minn. Their first child, Ann, was born in Bemidji. 

 The family then moved to Juneau, Alaska, where their two sons, Mike and Reed, were born. In 1969, the family moved to Aberdeen, where Carol continued to reside until the time of her death.

 Although being a mother was her top priority, Carol still used her time and talents to improve her community and help others. She was active in The Shrine Auxiliary, Aberdeen Quilt Guild, Master Gardeners, Pain Support Group, Prayer & Share, Bid-A-Wi Extension Club, Library Reading Group and the League of Women Voters. She also served on the Brown County Fair Board for six years, was a school board member for nine years and served as the chairman of the church Landscape Committee. Carol's passions were spending time with her family, playing bridge and gardening. Carol was well known for her beautiful gardens and flowers. She entered winning championship flowers at the Brown County Fair for several years.

 Carol is survived by her husband, DeWayne Storley, of Aberdeen; daughter, Ann (Steve) Salzer, of Willmar, Minn.; sons: Mike (Sandy) Storley of Dickinson, N.D., and Reed (Lori) Storley of Watertown; grandchildren: Dawn (Jake) Kubela, Ryan Salzer, Taylor Storley, Dylan Storley, Kari (Dan) Blazek and Kendal Fossum; great-grandchildren: Signe Kubela and Bjorn Kubela; special friends, Harold and Linda Narum; and many nieces and nephews.

 Carol's parents; brothers: Merrill and Mike; sister, Ethel Barrager; and two nephews preceded her in death.
