Allan Pratt, 85, of Webster died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Sanford-USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster. Inurnment will be at Webster Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster is in charge of the arrangements.
Allan Arthur Pratt was born on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1927, to Arthur and Martha (Edgar) Pratt at Peabody Hospital in Webster. The family lived in Webster Township, Day County, S.D., northwest of Webster. At a young age, the family moved to a farm in Kidder Township, Day County, northwest of Webster. He attended Webster High School, but didn't graduate. Later he completed his GED, which he excelled. After he left high school, he farmed with his parents on the family farm. In March 1956, he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm.
He was united in marriage to Denice Jederberg. After their marriage, the couple farmed the Pratt family farm. The couple later divorced. In 2001, he sold the farm to his son, Roy, but continued to live and help in the farming operation until the present time. He later met Helen Arten. The couple enjoyed gardening, playing cards and spending time together.
Allan was baptized as an adult at the United Methodist Church in Webster. He enjoyed reading, corresponding with family and political discourse. He also enjoyed traveling with family, he held a pilot's license and enjoyed flying in his younger days. He liked nature, hunting, fishing, boating and waking outside.
He is survived by a son, Roy Pratt of Webster; a daughter, Rebecca Pratt of Columbia Heights, Minn.; two sisters: Frances Litz of Bristol and Shirley Green of Duluth, Minn.; and a special friend, Helen Arten of Webster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Ruth Sather.
