The funeral for Wilma I. Tisher, 94, longtime Hecla area resident, will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hecla. Pastor Jay Haaland will officiate and burial will be in the Hecla Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service.
The Price Funeral Chapel of Britton has been entrusted with her arrangements.
Wilma passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center in Oakes, N.D., surrounded by her loving family.
Wilma Irene Tisher was born Sept. 15, 1918, the youngest child of Paul and Lena (Johnson) Krause, at Creston, Neb. She had three sisters and one brother. When Wilma was 5 months old, the family left Nebraska and moved to the Hecla area, where they moved often to various rented farms.
Wilma met Lyle Tisher in high school. They were married Oct. 1, 1938, in her parents' living room. After their marriage, she continued to work at various jobs. In 1970, they moved to their home in Hecla, where they remained until they moved into the Good Samaritan Society in Oakes, N.D., in the winter of 2010.
In addition to raising a large family, plus a large garden and canning, she also took in ironing. She embroidered dishtowels, dresser scarves, did cross-stitch, and sewed many quilts by hand. Almost all of her children and grand-children have received a quilt from her and she gave them to the church also.
Wilma is survived by her husband of 74 years, Lyle Tisher, Oakes; her seven children: Delwyn (Shirley) Tisher, Hecla, Kenneth (Mary) Tisher, Hecla, Victor (Jo) Tisher, Rapid City, Linda "Suzy" (Mike) McKay, Aberdeen, Timothy (Ruby) Tisher, Hecla, Pauline "Polly" (Richard Henninger) Becker, Oakes, Shawn (Kevin) Carlson, Oakes; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Karlen, Oakes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Mabel Felix and Stella Ackerson; a brother, Clarence Krause; a daughter in law, Beverly Tisher; and a grandson, Michael McKay, Jr.
