Arlene was born April 6, 1932, to George and Genvieve (Neuroth) Roseland. Arlene was born and raised south of Seneca on the family farm. She and her siblings would ride their horses to Hanson School cross country each day. While in the first grade, her sister would take Arlene and the teacher to school in a bobsled during the winter. In order for her to attend high school, her high school years were spent living in Faulkton with other friends in the Chambers house. A lifelong friendship was made with these special friends. After high school, Arlene worked as a telephone operator and clerk at the Turner Drug Store.
While attending a local baseball game, a cute guy with a wiggly butt caught her eye. Months later, she married that cute guy. On March 1, 1954, she wed Milton Heller. They began farming at the family farmstead in Orient. In 1957, they moved and began their farm and ranching operation in the Seneca area. They lived on the farm until moving to Faulkton in 1991.
Sunrise was the favorite part of Rosie's day. One of her greatest passions was riding a horse and working cattle. This is when she was at her happiest. Arlene was known around town for her caramel rolls and peanut butter bars.
She was a founding member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Faulkton. She was member of the VFW Auxiliary and an 81-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Arlene is survived by her three sons: Steve of Sioux Falls, Craig (Tanya) of Fort Pierre and Tom (Judy) of Seneca; daughter, Kim Vennard of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Bernadine (Sister) Selting; and her childhood and lifelong friend, Jean Deiter.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brother, Dean Roseland.
No flowers, please.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Arlene's arrangements.
